God's Word - The Final Authority

God's Word
The Final Authority

Concerning His own Word, God said:

"So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper [in the thing] whereto I sent it."  Isaiah 55:11.

This is 'absolute authority' speaking. There are no conditions attached, no restrictions and no limitations. This statement indicates the sovereignty of the One who spoke the Word and the absolute perfection of the Word spoken - it needs nothing added to it or taken from it. To the Believer, the Holy Bible is the 'Divinely Inspired' Word of God; the ultimate standard of measurement for Christian conduct, Church order and doctrine. Throughout his life and ministry Bro. William Branham believed in and taught the 'absolute authority' of the Bible in all matters that pertain to life and godliness.

Again, concerning His own Word, it is written:
...Forever, O Lord, Thy Word is settled in heaven. Psalms ll9:89.

This is but another confirmation of the 'absolute authority', 'finality' and 'conclusiveness' of the Word of God. It is impossible for us to improve upon the Divine revelation contained within it's pages. So perfect is His Word that God issued this warning: "Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish [ought] from it,....." Deuteronomy 4:2.

This warning is further emphasized in the last book of the Bible: "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book" Rev. 22:18-19.

Paul, in Hebrews 4:12-13 enforces the claim of the Word to sovereignty and absolute authority:

"For the word of God [is] quick [alive], and powerful, [effective - vindicating itself] and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things [are] naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do."

What a WORD! What a Book! So few professing Christians realize what they have in their possession, in a Book called The Holy Bible. For thousands of years man has tried to probe it's height, it's depth, it's breadth - still we're only scratching the surface of it's richness. So enduring is the Word of God, as contained in the pages of the Bible that Jesus said, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." Matthew 24:35.

Christianity is the only religion established upon the writings of a Book as unique as that of The Holy Bible - the Words of which are with POWER - life-changing, life-sustaining Power - Eternal Life! Highly respected Pastor and Bible Teacher Arthur. W. Pink (1886 - 1952) stated that "Christianity is the religion of "a" Book. Christianity is based upon the impregnable Rock of Holy Scriptures." The very foundation upon which Christian Truth rests is the reality of the Divine Inspiration of the Bible. For the True Christian, the Bible is the final court of appeal in all matters.

The Bible in itself is a most amazing Book. No other book ever written has ever had the impact on mankind as this book. No other book has ever been studied and read as much as God's Bible. No other book has been reproduced as much as the Bible; and no other book has been more controversial. Other books have been controversial in 'it's season' but after those books are forgotten and lost in time, the Bible still remains, is still printed by the millions, is still read, still discussed, still controversial, and still having an impact upon the world - clear evidence that the Word of God is "quick (with life in itself), powerful (it vindicates itself), sharper than any two-edged sword (lays bare all things), a discerner (revealer - exposing) the thoughts and intents of the heart".

Isaiah 66:2  states: "For all those [things] hath mine hand made, and all those [things] have been, saith the LORD: but to this [man] will I look, [even] to [him that is] poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word." John 5:24Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." And John 8:31 thunders these words: "If ye continue in my word, [then] are ye my disciples indeed;" "For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven." Psalms 119:89.

...Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4

The Bible is the final authority. I just don't believe God  would leave us down here without a copy of His Word. How can we know which is the real Bible? Well, you can scratch off the Revised Standard Version because the liberals put that one together. You can scratch off any Bible that came from Wescott and Hort because  that comes from the Vatican manuscripts. I'd suggest you find the one that has worked.

Find the one that widows have read; find the one over which they've wept and prayed for their children. Find the one that dear mothers in the history of our country have read, loved and taught. Find the one for which faithful evangelists have given their lives and for which missionaries have circled the globe. Find the one that has caused people to leave home, family and friends to carry its message. Find it!

Find the one Dwight Moody used. Find out which one Billy Sunday used. Find the one the great soul-winning churches in America use. Find the one that Adolph Hitler said he would destroy, but couldn't! Find the one about which Thomas Paine spoke when he said, "Within one generation, the Bible will not be printed anymore." However, as soon as he died, the same printing press on which he printed that garbage was used to print more Bibles. Find the one they can't destroy. Find the one that has stood the test of time. Find the one that liberals have tried to destroy, Hitlers have tried to burn, Mussolinis have tried to outlaw and Khrushchevs and Stalins have tried to burn! Find it! The Bible says, "My words shall not pass away." (Matthew 24:35).

You say, "I don't understand those 'thees' and 'thous.'" It's simple - "Thee" means "you.", "Thou" means "you." and "I" means "me.", and "We" means "us." You know it, and you know you know it! Not only that, but the Holy Spirit of God, the Author of the Bible, "IF" He lives inside of you, He will give you understanding. If you can't understand a part of it, ask Him to teach you, and He will do it. He wrote it!

For the vast majority of professing Christians and to one hundred per cent of Evangelicals, the Bible is God's Word to mankind. We believe that The Bible was brought to us, "...not in old time by the will of man, but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." (2nd. Peter 1:20). Again the Bible says... "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." (2nd. Tim. 3:16-17).

To further establish the Authority of the Bible, God ordained that these words be penned near the end of the last chapter of The Book of Revelation...

22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book.

Therefore, to the Christian, the Word of God as contained in the Bible, is the Absolute and Final Authority to settle all questions concerning Christian Conduct, Church Order And Doctrine. Realizing that we will be ultimately judged by what's written in God's Word, it's important that we 'line-up' with it. Jesus Said, "If ye continue in my Word, then are ye my disciples indeed;" (John 8:31).

As believers in the Message God sent us through His servant, William Branham, many times we are condemned and accused of "following a man" instead of Christ; and placing his teachings above Scripture - THIS IS FALSE! Such accusations are spread by "blind leaders of the blind". The Bible says, "If the blind lead the blind. both shall fall into the ditch". Matthew 15:14.

We DO NOT follow William Branham any more than the people in Paul's day followed him. Saint Paul said, "Follow me as I follow Christ." If Paul were to make such a statement in this Age of apostate churches he would surely be branded a false prophet, and his 'followers' would be branded as Paulites or a Cult. Because we accept the Bible teaching of William Branham we are branded by the carnal Christian as Branhamites and/or a Cult. Are the Lutherans a Cult because they follow the teachings of Luther; or the Methodist because they follow Wesley, the Salvation Army because they follow William Booth, etc.. Of course these have gotten away from the original teachings of their founders, including the Evangelical Churches.

Concerning the teachings of William Branham, we DO NOT place them above the Bible, but rather we place them IN the Bible. Since the true interpretation of the Word comes to a vindicated Prophet we accept his teaching, over and above that of the un-vindicated church theologians (denominational and non-denominational alike).

Contrary to what the 'un-informed' have said and continue to say, William Branham believed in and preached the "absolute authority" of the Bible. The following quotes speak for themselves.

AT THY WORD LORD - 54-1207
Now, God hath set in the Church, gifts, first the Bible. Now, I'm strictly a fundamentalist. If anything doesn't come from this Bible, it isn't true. I believe that this is God's Truth. And everything, every doctrine must be based upon this New Testament, the New Testament Church.

othing against Catholic people (No, sir.); they're just as good as anybody else, but their religion is wrong according to this Bible. If this Bible's right, they're wrong. They say, "It doesn't matter what the Bible says; it's what the church says." We believe that the Bible speaks with the supreme authority. Absolutely, it's God's Word.

So, you know that God, the Source of all wisdom couldn't do a thing like that. There's not even common sense in it, let alone the intelligence of the supernatural Being. There's one thing that's right; that's the Word. The Word is right.

...to me it's the Word is right, because at the close of the Bible, God said this in His Word, "Whosoever shall take one word away from This or add one word to It, the same will be taken, his part, out of the Book of Life." So to me it's the Word.

ou say, "Well, Saint Christopher said so-and-so, and Dwight Moody, great man" - but they're un-authoritative. There's only one authority, and that's this Bible.

You say, "Why, the Wesleyan church does it this way, and they sprinkle instead of baptize;" and all these other things that they got all mixed up. You say, "Well, they were great people."

I believe they were great people too. But they haven't got the authoritative right to do that. For the Bible said, "Whosoever shall take one word away from this or add anything to it, the same of his part will be taken from the Book of Life." This [the Bible] is the Word. This is the Truth.

o we have two classes today that's professing to be the Bride of Christ. That's right. And the Bible speaks there'll be two classes: the wise virgin and the foolish one. There's two classes.

he church says, "We are the church." They go out and have these great evangelistic campaigns, bring the peoples into the church. They never change their doctrine. They've got it all wrote out, and documented, and set down, and those apostles' creed, and certain prayers, and all these catechisms, and everything that the Methodists and Baptists and Presbyterians and Catholic and all, read.

And they accept that catechism because some great man back behind said that was right. He might've been a great man. He might've been right. But he hasn't got the authority to say that, because the Bible is God's authority. It's the written Word of God, and, "Any man that adds one thing to it, or takes anything from it, the same will be taken, his part out of the Book of Life."

CHURCH ORDER - 63-1226
ow, I'm not trying to usurp authority or something like that, but (You see?), a man or anything with two heads to it, it doesn't know how to go. God never did have two heads to His church; He never did; it's one head. As we've studied through the Scriptures, there's always one individual that He deals with. Because you get two men, you got two opinions. It's got to come to one final absolute, and my absolute is the Word, the Bible. And as a pastor here of the church, my absolute is the Word.

Someone said the other day, "Brother Branham, the people make a god out of you."

First, he was trying to get next to me, you know. He said, "Frankly, if you're a vindicated like that by your ministry, would not you have the same authority to write another Bible even? Because a man with that vindication, his words were made up to the Bible."

I said, "Sir, you see, you don't understand. A true prophet knows that nothing can be added or taken away from the Word."

Then he started to behave rashly. He said, "You've become a god to the people."

I said, "Well, is that anything too far out of Scripture?"

In the last part of the above statement Brother Branham was referring to what Jesus said in John 10:34 - 37:

"Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?"

"If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;"

"Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?"

In Exodus 7:1 we find that God made Moses a 'god' to Pharoah, and Aaron, his brother was Moses' prophet.

"And the Lord said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh; and Aaron, thy brother, shall be thy prophet."

It's absolutely amazing when one stops to consider how blind the churches are to the ways and methods of God. "They seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand." Matthew 13:13.

Now, then the Urim Thummim today is this Bible. If somebody has give a prophecy or a dream, and it don't compare or echo with God's Bible, it's false; don't believe it.

nd the people don't know what to believe. You believe God's Bible; that's the thing that's right. "Let ever man words be a lie; let Mine be the true," God says, no matter what it is. And the proof of the pudding is (as the old slogan is), is the eating thereof. If God says it in His Word, and He produces it, believe it, and go on. Forget the rest of it, and just let God be truth.

Now the time is at hand that I must either be a false witness or a true witness of Christ. If I have told the truth, as I believe this Bible to be the Truth, and no other book, and anything contrary to this is not the truth. I only believe that this Bible contains the Truth of God. And if this Bible said that He has risen from the dead, that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever, then He's got to be the same in resurrection, got to be the same in power. He's got to be the same in principle. He's got to be the same in every way except a cardinal body. This body, the corporal body of His is setting at the right hand of God Almighty in glory. Do you believe that? He's setting at the right hand of God Almighty in glory making intercession.

But you ain't got no thought coming. Let the mind that was in Christ be in you. And Christ is the Word. Let the Word be in you. Christ's Words is right... So anything, any teacher, any Bible expositor, anything else would teach you or try to get you to believe anything one little iota different from what this Bible says it, it's a false teaching. It's Satan again just exactly like it was to Eve. God goes right on, no matter what he does, what Satan does, God goes right on proving it to be so.

Without any shadow of doubt we can say that William Branham believed in and preached the 'absolute authority of the Bible', the Word of God. Surely, there's no misunderstanding of what he said in the above quotes. But people still do misunderstand.

Over 1200 of Brother Branham's sermons were recorded on magnetic tape. In three or four of these messages Brother Branham said, "say only what the tapes say". WHY DID HE SAY THAT? He made this statement because he wanted to make sure that he wasn't "Misquoted" on any doctrinal teaching or otherwise. In essence he was saying... "If you're going to quote something I said then make sure you say only what I said." Over the years Brother Branham was constantly misunderstood and/or misquoted on many things. That's why he asked the people to "say only what the tapes say." Of course if some individual or group of individuals are offended by what he taught, then no matter what I would say, they won't listen. That's a sad state to be in.

God Bless you! Thank you for your time and consideration. May you experience in your life the Love, mercy and peace of God in a double portion.
